Oats, Goats, and Totes Begotes....

It's official. We moved. Okay; it's been official for a while now... but I've come back to write this again, and again since April. I'm sad about the entire affair. We decided to come home, up North. On that front; I am happy we're here. However, we left behind many people that we love and care for... many memories ... and many places that we hold dear. That's what makes me sad. And on a different note - we're not quite back home. We're six hours away from our Oklahoma/Arkansas community, two hours away from our old home (and friends) in Iowa, and we're two hours away from all of our South/Central Missouri friends. So close.. and yet so far. That bit is frustrating. Close enough I can go for a visit! Far away enough, I cant just go on a whim.

We have many more animals now! We have 30 chickens, 1 turkey, 5 cats, 1 dog, and 4 goats. That means any trips longer than two days we have to get a house sitter. This has proven both wonderful; and annoying. Our hope and goal of the animals is to steadily learn about homesteading. This seems to be our dream; but do we really want this? Do we really want to devote our lives and children's lives in this pursuit? This is why we have the animals in the first place. We have had friends and others buy 10-20 acres and then suddenly be overwhelmed and not know how to care for anything, or how much it all is going to cost... so we want to steadily learn, and incrementally be better so that if we do buy land - if we do pursue this course for our lives - we're equipped and prepared before doing so... and if not - well - we sure learned a lot! Basically; having the grace to fail and learn from our failures.

Life has taken an interesting turn this year. We've fixed a home and sold it. We've bought a new home, and are still in the process of fixing that. We've traveled more this year than I can recall, visiting family, and friends... all the way from the East Coast of North Carolina to the Central USA. Perhaps next year, we'll head WEST! But life has definitely taken us on several interesting turns this year. We now have our practicing Mid-West homestead, two households (Hubs got a new job! He's away for training and hopefully can come home soon),  a new school for our children (they're all in Public this year; its an interesting change for everyone), new town, new neighbors... new everything. And yet; despite the changes, on all fronts, still abundantly blessed.
